Soft by Richard Kern
I've long been an admirer of Richard Kern, ever since I saw some of his pictures in Tight magazine (when it used to be good).
So I was pleased to find a new book release from him called "Soft".
You may know Richard Kern as the photographer of New Nude City, the site he launched with Petter Hegre last year.
But Kern is usually better known for his work in print.
I've not yet received a review copy of 'Soft', so I can't sincerely recommend it yet.
But from what I understand, if you like Richard Kern's work, you'll consider this an essential purchase.
Here's some info I got from Amazon.com:
"Beyond traditional portraiture, Richard Kern's new works manifest a strong eroticism while incorporating the cinematic power of his earlier "Transgression" theme. His recent photographs with saturated color and stark, atmospheric lighting accentuate his pretty-but-not-perfect young nudes. Inspired, unique, and "real," his approach is as daring as ever in Soft. Still sticking with the "no airbrush" motto, Kern's unpretentious, honest photos draw the viewer in close.
Kern's longstanding relationship with the "No-wave" scene, which incorporated music, performance, feminist art, and the punk lifestyle, is reflected and distilled in these photographs."
From what I know of Richard Kern, this description of the book doesn't surprise me. I'm just hoping that review copy arrives soon...or I might have to buy it myself.
